About this wheelchair accessible Palermo and Monreale tour

Your driver picks you up from the cruise port. There, you find him by the sign he is holding and helps you to get into the adapted vehicle through a ramp. Your first stop of this Visit Palermo and Monreale tour is the village called Monreale, where you get to see the magnificent cathedral.

In 831, Palermo was conquered by the Arabs, and the bishop of Palermo was driven out of the capital. He settled temporarily in Monreale. This was probably the reason that in 1172, William II of Sicily had the famous Cattedrale di Monreale built here. The Norman and Arabic elements are clearly recognizable in the building. The cathedral is decorated with a total of 6000 m2 mosaics. In the central nave are all sorts of scenes from the old and new testament, of course, depicted in mosaics. There is the story of Noah and the ark, Adam and Eve, the tower of Babel, and much more.

After you have seen Monreale, you head to the capital of Sicily, Palermo. There you get to see several highlights. First is the historical part of Palermo with Massimo Theater. The biggest opera building in Italy. You see the four angels, Piazza Pretoria, with its majestic fountain, Aquile palace, Norman palace, the cathedral. And for the bravest among us, you get to visit the catacombs of the Cappuccini. in this tomb, there are thousands of mummies buried.

Your tour continues to Mount Pellegrino, where you enjoy spectacular views over the city and Mondello, a little fishers village. This town is very famous for its white beaches, seafood, and charming restaurants.
