Highlights of this tour
- Norsk Tindesenter
- Train Chapel
This tour is a walking/rolling tour and it does not include adapted transport. The terrain is a mixture of flat as well as up/downhill. This accessible rolling tour of Åndalsnes takes you to the Norwegian Mountaineering Center or ‘Norsk Tindesenter’. This is a brand-new visitor center in Åndalsnes and focuses on the history of mountaineering in Norway and outdoor mountain activities. What can you expect to see inside the museum? There is a movie theater that provides you with an amazing 3D multimedia show. The movie is a 15-minute fairytale about what you can do or see in the mountains. People who have seen it indicate it is a movie you definitely do not want to miss!
The Åndalsnes Train Chapel or the ‘Church on rail’ is the first and only train chapel in Norway and believed to be the only one in the world. Now, why did they make a chapel on a train you ask? This old railway carriage was a gift from the Norwegian State Railway. It had served many people who were traveling, and now they wanted to give it another purpose. That purpose is to give people silence and peace in an otherwise noisy world. The train is beside the train station in Åndalsnes, which is the end station of the Rauma line, also a chapel. The chapel is open all year round and allows visitors during the day. This is such a unique site which you will not find anywhere else, and you should definitely include a visit to the Train Chapel during your stay in Åndalsnes.
