Your driver will pick you up from the cruise port or your accommodation. He or she will be waiting for you with a sign with your name on it and takes you to the city of Palma. Spend your day rolling around the lovely city of Palma with your tourist assistant and learn more about its architecture and history. You will see the influences of both Moorish and European eras. The first stop is the Gothic Cathedral La Seu that dominates the entire landscape. You will discover that most of the main sites are located within the area inside the old city walls. Antoni Gaudi was once invited to take over the restoration of this cathedral. But due to an argument with the contractor, he left the project. Even though he did not finish the restoration, some of his ideas were adopted.
Your second stop is the Palace of L’Almudaina. Both the cathedral La Seu and the Palau de l’Almudaina overlook the harbor and will provide you with spectacular views out to sea, including a view of Bellver Castle situated high above the town. The Palace was originally an Islamic fort, but it was converted into the home of the Mallorcan monarchs. The King of Spain still resides there symbolically, but he is rarely home.
The third stop on this tour is the Bellver Castle. It is a Gothic style building that dates back from the 14th century and was originally built for King James II of Mallorca. The thing that makes this castle so unique and special is its round shape. It is the only round castle you will find in Spain. Roll around the castle that used to be a prison for so many years. Nowadays it is a museum and a visitor attraction. Go to the upper floor for scenic views of Palma city! Read more about this castle and its accessibility in this blog.
The tour will also pass by the Town Hall, with its 800 years old olive tree, and the King Gardens. At the end of the tour, your driver will bring you back to the cruise port or your hotel.
