Highlights of this tour
- Geiranger
- Herdalsetra in Nordal
During this private tour, you will visit the small village of Geiranger followed by the beautiful Herdalssetra summer farm.
The tour starts from the port in Geiranger where your English-speaking driver-guide will pick you up in an adapted vehicle.
The tour begins in Geiranger, a small village in western Norway situated at the head of Geirangerfjord. Throughout the tour, you will explore this UNESCO World Heritage-listed area, part of the West Norwegian Fjords, home to some of Norway’s most dramatic fjord landscapes.
Around Geirangerfjord, you will encounter several famous waterfalls, including Brudesløret (the Bridal Veil), which is one of the most iconic waterfall in Norway and De syv søstrene (the Seven Sisters), one of the most photographed waterfalls in the region.
As you approach to the beautiful Herdalssetra summer farm, located 520 meters above sea level, just above the village of Norddal, the road is steep and fascinating with its many waterfalls, ending at Herdalsvatnet, which stretches about 2 kilometres into the valley.
At the end of these meadows lies the unique Herdalssetra, which forms an intimate group of more than 30 old farmhouses. There are also several ruins of old farms and buildings. This is one of the largest alpine farming communities in Norway, specializing in goat farming, with a tradition that dates back over 300 years. The farm is also home to cows, sheep, and fjord horses.
Upon request, you can enjoy a tasting of local products.
At the end of the tour, the driver will return you to the cruise port or your accommodation.
