Your English speaking driver-guide will meet you at the cruise terminal or your accommodation in Sorrento, with private adapted transport. You find him by the sign that he is holding with your name on it. He helps you to the vehicle, and your tour to Pompeii, followed by Amalfi Coast begins!
The day starts in Pompeii with your two hours private guided tour. Pompeii is a site, or ruin, that words or pictures cannot describe or capture. It used to be a very busy and lively town that ceased to exist on the 24th of August of the year 79. Surprised by the smothering ash of the volcano, the inhabitants had no chance to survive.
There is a unique path that makes Pompeii more accessible to everyone thanks to the creation of ramps and elevators to cross the architectural barriers. However, please be advised that the terrain may be bumpy, and not quite yet up to international standards for mobility. Click here to learn more about the accessibility of Pompeii.
Not only the well-preserved streets and houses can be viewed, but your guide will also share insights about the history of Pompeii and the life that its inhabitants had at the time. Hear the stories about the gladiator’s school. Take a look inside a villa of one of the richest families of that time. See the theater and the bathhouses.
The tour continues with a scenic visit along the Amalfi Coast. There are two possible routes that we suggest: you can either visit Amalfi Town and Positano or Ravello and Amalfi Town.
Ravello is located just before Amalfi, is one of the most beautiful and historically rich towns on the Amalfi Coast, known for its stunning views, gardens, and cultural heritage. As you stroll through the pedestrian streets, you will encounter traces of Wagner, as Ravello inspired Act 2 of Richard Wagner’s opera Parsifal.
Further along the coast, Amalfi Town is set against dramatic cliffs and stunning coastal scenery. Once a powerful trading hub in the Mediterranean between 839 and 1200, Amalfi is the heart of the coast, known locally as Costiera Amalfitana. The town is home to a striking cathedral, though be aware that this is not accessible, due to several stairs.
The next delightful village on the coast is Positano, famous for its colorful pastel houses. After exploring this town, you may find yourself inspired to paint your own house in pastel hues! Positano offers plenty of photo opportunities, with its lovely alleys, stunning views of the bay, and excellent shopping. Be prepared for some cobbled streets as you wander through.
At the end of the day, your driver-guide brings you back to the cruise port again.
