About this Wheelchair Accessible Sintra and Coastal Towns Tour – Approx 4 Hours

This half-day tour is put together specifically for travelers who use a wheelchair, scooter, or have limited mobility and want to explore the best of the Sintra region.

Along the way you will visit three towns: the UNESCO-listed Sintra, as well as the coastal villages of Cascais and Estoril. You will also be able to enjoy stunning views of the Atlantic on the drive back to Lisbon. Your driver guide takes care of everything and collects you from the cruise port or your accommodation in the city centre.

Sintra

Your first stop is Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage site set in the hills above Lisbon. In the village centre, the Sintra National Palace dominates the main square with its two large white chimneys. The building has served as a royal residence since the 10th century.

Sintra is worth stopping at for the food alone. Ask your guide for the best place to try Queijadas, small crispy cheese tarts with centuries of history, and Travesseiros, soft pastries filled with almond and egg custard and finished with icing sugar. Or try the classic pastel de nata.

Accessibility note: Praça da República is flat but paved with cobblestones. The surrounding streets are level, though the side streets leading away from the square have more of a gradient. Your guide will know the most accessible routes.

Sintra Natural Park

Leaving Sintra, your driver takes you through Sintra Natural Park. From the road you will see the colourful towers of Pena Palace high on the hillside, with the medieval walls of the Moorish Castle visible just below. Further along, Quinta da Regaleira comes into view, an estate known for its underground tunnels and Freemason symbolism, followed by Monserrate Palace, a 19th-century retreat with beautiful facades and gardens.

Cascais

From Sintra, the road heads down to the coast, bringing you into the seaside town of Cascais. You will have time to explore at your own pace. The Portuguese royal family has been coming here since the 19th century.

The town has a relaxed character; the harbour is dotted with fishing boats, and the pedestrian centre is lined with cafés and local shops. The seafront promenade is flat and barrier-free, and a good place to take in the fresh sea breeze.

Estoril and the Coastal Drive Back to Lisbon

A short drive brings you to Estoril, a quiet and pleasant coastal town with palm-lined streets, grand old villas and cafés along the waterfront. The Passeio Marítimo, the flat promenade linking Estoril to Cascais, is barrier-free and offers open stunning views of the Atlantic

From Estoril, your driver takes the coastal road back to Lisbon with open Atlantic views along the way. At the end of the tour, your driver drops you back at the cruise port or your city centre accommodation.
