Accessibility of Santorini

The island of Santorini has its accessibility challenges. Prior to booking this tour, make sure you check with the cruise liner that the ship actually docks in port. In some cases tender boats bring people to land. Most of the time, these tender boats are not wheelchair accessible. Once on land, you will need to take the cable car to reach the town of Thira, also known as Fira.

Fira

The city of Fira is the lively capital of Santorini, located in the western edge. Its half-moon-shaped bay is the center of the Caldera. The Caldera is actually a basin with a 6.5 km diameter, and consists of cliffs and steep rocks. It is considered one of the most beautiful in the world and from here you have the best views of the island.

Fira combines natural beauty with an active social life, filled with local bars and restaurants and plenty of options for some shopping, if you wish.

It is also home to many museums of which the Museum of Prehistoric Thira is the main one. Here you find a large number of ancient artifacts from the various excavations on Santorini throughout the different periods of history. A visit is optional.

Oia

Next up is Oia, towards the northeastern part of the Caldera and situated on top of an impressive cliff. Oia is the most photogenic destination on the island of Santorini. This picturesque village is known throughout the world for its beauty, the amazing sunset, luxury hotels, art galleries and spectacular view over the volcano and the island of Thirassia.

During this tour your guide will make sure to take you to the best accessible spots and viewing places of this fairytale village. As well will you enjoy a remote view of the characteristic architecture. Great photo opportunities guaranteed!

Blue Domed Church

Santorini is filled with traditional Cycladi architecture style construction: the typical whitewashed houses and churches with bright blue domes. The most impressive one due to the beauty of the surrounding scenery, is St Gerasimios Christian Church, also known as the Blue Domed Church

Megalochori

Megalochori is a peaceful village on the south side of Santorini, a well-kept hidden gem, off the beaten track. Here you find winding little alleys leading to the laid-back inviting central square where you see the locals gather to unwind. In Megalochori you also find the stately homes and cold cave houses with its solid wooden doors and high fences, that were once used to protect its homeowners from the pirates.

Besides the traditional tavernas and quaint little boutique shops, the villages gives great views of the ocean to the west, as well as a beautiful valley filled with vineyards to the east.

At the end of the tour, your guide and driver will take you back to the cruise port again.
