- Optional: Nemea wine or oil tasting
With this 8-hour private tour you will explore Corinth. This was once one of the Mediterranean’s wealthiest trading cities. Your private driver will pick you up from your Athens city centre accommodation or cruise port and take you through 2,500 years of history. On this tour you will (st)roll among the ruins while your private guide brings this fascinating story to life.
Your private driver and guide take you on a scenic drive south from Athens toward the Peloponnese.
After the scenic drive you will arrive at Ancient Corinth. With origins dating back to Neolithic times, this is one of Greece’s most significant archaeological sites. The Temple of Apollo is the most iconic monument on the site. Built around 540 BCE, this Doric temple is one of the oldest in Greece. Seven monumental limestone columns still stand today and are visible from across the entire site.
Accessibility note: The site sits on hilly terrain with a mix of asphalt paths and gravel walkways. Manual wheelchair users are recommended to have a companion with them for assistance on steeper sections.
Beyond the Temple, the site holds the remains of a thriving ancient city. You will see the Roman Forum, the Fountain of Peirene, the Theatre, the Odeion, and Roman baths. Your guide will tell you how Corinth was destroyed by Rome in 146 BCE and rebuilt by Julius Caesar in 44 BCE as a Roman colony. What you see today is a blend of Greek and Roman heritage.
The museum is located within the archaeological complex and is fully accessible. Inside, you will find pottery, mosaics, Roman sculptures, and coins. You will also see ancient clay figures left behind by visitors seeking healing powers. One ticket covers both the site and the museum, ticket is to be paid on the day.
This tour can be extended with an optional wine or olive oil tasting. When choosing this extension you will head to Nemea. This region is famous for its bold red wine, grown here for centuries. You will visit a local winery or olive mill, taste a selection of wines or olive oils, and enjoy traditional local products. Tastings cost approximately €25-30 per person. When interested in this extension, let us know when booking and which tasting you would like to do.
At the end of the day, your private driver takes you back to your Athens city centre accommodation or cruise port.
