About this wheelchair accessible San Sebastian city tour

Discover San Sebastian on a private 4-hour city tour designed for travelers with disabilities. Discover the city’s most iconic sights through a combination of walking/rolling and private adapted transportation, accompanied by a licensed English-speaking guide and a flexible itinerary tailored to your needs.

Your tour starts with a pick-up from your accommodation in the city center of San Sebastian. You will travel to Monte Igueldo by private adapted transport. After that you will be taken to the center to continue your tour walking/rolling. When finished, you will be taken back to your original pick up by adapted vehicle. The itinerary can be adjusted to your mobility needs and preferences.

Monte Igueldo

Monte Igueldo is one of the best places to enjoy beautiful views over San Sebastian and the sea. From the viewpoint, you can look across Bahía de la Concha, Santa Clara Island and the city below.

There are wheelchair-accessible routes inside the park. Around the viewpoint are some steps, but two ramps make it possible for wheelchair users to reach the viewpoint without using the stairs. An adapted toilet is also available next to the café. It can be opened with a key, which you can request at the carousel in the center of the park.

After visiting Monte Igueldo, private adapted transport will take you to the city center. From there, the tour continues along an accessible walking and rolling route through San Sebastian. Bahía de la Concha, the Parte Vieja, Kursaal and Catedral del Buen Pastor are all close to each other, making it possible to explore these parts of the city without needing adapted transport between every stop.

Bahía de la Concha

No visit to San Sebastian is complete without seeing Bahía de la Concha. La Concha is one of Europe’s most beautiful urban beaches and the iconic symbol of San Sebastián (Donostia). The bay, wide seafront promenade and views of Santa Clara Island make it one of the city’s most popular places to visit. The beach is named after its shell shaped bay, La Concha, meaning “the shell”.

The elegant white railing along the promenade has become one of San Sebastian’s most recognizable features, framing the bay and its beautiful coastal views. Take in the views across the water, watch the boats go by and enjoy the lively atmosphere along the waterfront.

For the city tour, the focus is on enjoying the accessible waterfront, taking in the views across the bay and experiencing the atmosphere of one of San Sebastian’s most beautiful areas.

The promenade and surrounding waterfront are accessible for wheelchair users, with step-free routes along much of the area. The beach itself has access ramps and, during the beach season, an accessible walkway is installed from the main entrance near the clocks. The walkway does not reach the shoreline, however, so access to the water remains limited for wheelchair users.

Parte Vieja

Roll into the heart of San Sebastian in the Parte Vieja, the city’s historic Old Town. With its narrow streets, old buildings, lively squares and many cafés and bars, this is one of the most atmospheric parts of the city. It is a great place to experience the history and everyday life of San Sebastian.

The accessible route through the Parte Vieja includes Plaza de la Constitución, Plaza de la Trinidad and several streets around the historic center. The main pedestrian route is suitable for people with reduced mobility, making it possible to enjoy the Old Town without having to navigate every street independently.

There is one important accessibility point to keep in mind. The route towards the harbor includes a steep street, which can be difficult for wheelchair users and travelers with reduced mobility. This section can be avoided if necessary, allowing you to explore the historic center using the more accessible parts of the route.

During the tour, your guide can adjust the route and pace to your mobility needs, so you can enjoy the atmosphere of the Parte Vieja in a comfortable way.

Kursaal

The Kursaal is one of San Sebastian’s best-known cultural buildings and an important part of the city’s modern side. It is a large cultural and events center, hosting concerts, exhibitions, conferences and the famous San Sebastian International Film Festival. The building stands right by the Urumea River and Zurriola Beach and is easy to recognize by its two large glass structures. Their modern design creates a striking contrast with the older buildings and streets of the city.

During the city tour, you can enjoy the Kursaal from the outside and take in its modern architecture and location by the river and beach.

Catedral del Buen Pastor

The Catedral del Buen Pastor is one of the most beautiful buildings in San Sebastian and a great example of neo-Gothic architecture. With its tall tower and detailed design, the cathedral is an impressive part of the city’s skyline and one of the places worth seeing during your visit.

During the city tour, you can visit the cathedral or simply enjoy its impressive exterior, depending on your interests and the pace of the tour. Entrance is free.

The cathedral is accessible for wheelchair users. The main entrance can be reached by a ramp or stairs, although the entrance door is manual and quite heavy. Once inside, wheelchair users can move around the cathedral, with ramps providing access to areas where there are steps. The floor is hard and non-slip, making it easier to move around with a wheelchair.

There are also adapted toilets inside the cathedral. Assistance dogs are welcome and can enter the cathedral free of charge.

Return to your city center accommodation or cruise port

After the tour, you will be taken back to your original pick-up point.
