Once, Cartagena was the capital of the Carthaginians. Until the Romans took over the city and in the Middle Ages, Cartagena was under the Arabian rule. In the city, you find among other things: a Roman Theatre Museum, Naval Museum, a range of historic buildings and unfinished archaeological excavations of the Roman amphitheater.
