Discover the beauty and history of Inverness on a relaxed tour through the Scottish Highlands. This tour combines beautiful Highland landscapes, historic landmarks and cultural highlights, all from an adapted vehicle.
Along the way, your local Highland driver-guide will share information about the area’s history, traditions, landscapes and everyday life.

Scenic Drive Across the Black Isle

From Invergordon Cruise Port, your local driver-guide will meet you and you will leave by adapted vehicle towards Inverness. One of the first highlights is the drive across the Black Isle. Despite its name, the Black Isle is a peninsula rather than a true island. Along the route, you will see open countryside, farmland, coastal landscapes and small villages.

As you travel towards Inverness, you can enjoy changing views of the Highland countryside. The landscape includes fields, rural scenery and coastal views. The route also offers panoramic views across the Cromarty Firth. The Cromarty Firth is a large sea inlet surrounded by hills and countryside. The water, open landscape and Highland hills create beautiful views along the route.

During the drive, your guide will tell you more about life in the Highlands. This includes Highland Clans and the Clearances, Farming and Folklore, and Modern Highland Life. You will hear about the people and communities that shaped the history of Scotland, traditional farming and local stories, and what it is like to live in the Highlands today.

Inverness Castle & River Ness Viewpoint

You then arrive in the heart of Inverness, with a stop outside Inverness Castle. The stop has easy, flat access just outside the vehicle, where you can enjoy the views and take photographs. From this viewpoint, you can see the iconic Inverness Castle and the sweeping city skyline. Inverness Castle is connected to the development of Inverness and the wider Highlands. Originally built as a fortress and later used as a courthouse, the castle now celebrates the history and culture of the Highlands.

You can also see the majestic River Ness winding through the landscape. From the viewpoint, you can see the river together with the surrounding city and natural landscape. In the background, the rolling Highland hills surround the city. These hills create a clear view of the landscape around Inverness and show the connection between the city and the Highlands.

Together, the castle, city skyline, River Ness and Highland hills give you a view of some of the most recognizable sights of Inverness. There will be time to enjoy the view and take photographs before you continue the tour.

Scenic City Drive

After the viewpoint, you continue through the historic streets of Inverness. Along the route, you will see historic buildings, architectural details, cultural landmarks and striking Victorian architecture. Your local driver-guide will share stories about the area, including the Jacobite Rebellions, local myths and famous residents. These stories give you more insight into the history and character of Inverness as we travel through the city.

St Andrew’s Cathedral

You will pass St Andrew’s Cathedral, located on the banks of the River Ness and close to Eden Court Theatre. The cathedral is known for its Victorian Gothic Revival architecture, distinctive red sandstone exterior and twin towers. It is one of the most recognizable historic buildings in Inverness and has been an important place of worship in the city since it opened in 1869. This is an outside stop. Here, you can admire the building from the outside and take photographs before we continue our tour.

Eden Court Theatre

You will also pass Eden Court Theatre, located next to St Andrew’s Cathedral. Eden Court is one of the main cultural centres in Inverness, hosting a wide range of theatre, music, dance, film and other performances throughout the year. It is also home to cinemas, galleries and spaces for exhibitions and cultural events. Here, you can admire the building from the outside before we continue our tour.

Ness Islands

Another highlight is the Ness Islands. These are wooded islands in the River Ness, close to the center of Inverness. The islands are connected by bridges and form a green area within the city. As you pass, you can see the trees, river and bridges and enjoy a different view of Inverness.
After passing the Ness Islands, you continue back to Invergordon Cruise Port, where the tour comes to an end at the original meeting point.
