Your private driver guide will meet you at the cruise port or your city center accommodation with private adapted transport. During this tour, you will discover the highlights of Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, while learning more about the city’s history, culture and surroundings. The tour follows a step-free route and requires little walking or rolling, making it a comfortable way to explore the city and its coastline.
Your first stop is the Bonaria Sanctuary, one of Cagliari’s most important religious landmarks. The complex includes a Catalan Gothic sanctuary dating back to the 14th century and the larger Neoclassical Basilica, built in the 18th century.
The complex is fully accessible for visitors with reduced mobility, allowing wheelchair users to visit the sanctuary and basilica. The main entrance area is reached from the accessible piazza, rather than using the long staircase leading up the hill. Admission to the Basilica and Sanctuary is free.
This is a self-visit, so you will explore the sanctuary at your own pace. Your driver guide will introduce you to the history and significance of Bonaria before you have time to look around independently.
The tour continues to Monte Urpini, the highest point of Cagliari, overlooking the Gulf of the Angels. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of the coastline.
Your driver-guide takes you to the accessible viewpoint, allowing you to enjoy the views without having to navigate the park’s uneven or steep paths.
From the viewpoint, you see the Devil’s Saddle, an excellent panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Gulf of the Angels. On the opposite side, you have views of the fortified Castello district, with its network of narrow lanes and historic monuments reflecting the city’s different influences over the centuries. Castello is viewed from the accessible viewpoint and is not visited or entered as part of the tour.
Next, you will stop at the Bastion of Saint Remy, one of Cagliari’s most recognizable landmarks in the historic center. Built between 1899 and 1902 on the old city walls, the Bastion features a large terrace with views over Cagliari, the port and the sea.
Your adapted vehicle takes you to Piazza Costituzione, where the panoramic elevator provides step-free access to the upper terrace. The main staircase is not suitable for wheelchair users, so the elevator offers an accessible alternative. The terrace is free to visit, making this a great place to take in the views and explore at your own pace.
The Covered Walkway and Sperone Gallery have separate access and an entrance fee cost. These areas are optional and are not included as part of the tour. If you prefer to visit the Gallery inside, your driver will wait while you explore the Bastion independently before continuing to the next stop. Upon showing a disability tag, visitors with a disability and one companion receive free admission.
The tour then continues towards Poetto Beach and the nearby Molentargius lagoon, a natural area known for its pink flamingos. Poetto Beach is wheelchair accessible, with accessible pathways providing step-free access towards the beach and the water. Beach wheelchairs are also available at selected beach facilities, allowing wheelchair users to access the sand and reach the water.
The scenic drive continues along the coast towards Villasimius, a popular seaside destination in southern Sardinia. Along the way, you will pass beaches, cliffs and clear Mediterranean waters, with opportunities to stop for photographs and enjoy the scenery.
At the end of the tour, your driver guide will take you back to the cruise port or your city center accommodation.
