About this wheelchair accessible Val d’Orcia, Montalcino, and Pienza tour

Note: This tours lasts 14 hours, and therefore this tour is only available from your accommodation in Rome. Pick-ups from the port or airport would make this day too long. You have a private English-speaking driver guide and a wheelchair accessible vehicle available during the entire trip.

Val d’Orcia

After a beautiful and scenic ride of approximately three hours, you arrive at the famous Val d’Orcia region. Just outside Siena, you see the many typical hilly landscapes. The region has a couple of picturesque little towns as Castiglione d’Orcia, Montalcino, Pienza, Radicofani, and San Quirico d’Orcia. Besides the villages, throughout this day you see a gorgeous scene that is captured by many painters from the Renaissance era. Close your eyes and imagine evergreen curved hills with a single cypress at the top, accompanied by hay bales scattered over the fields. That is what you are going to see in this region filled with UNESCO heritage sites.

Montalcino

Montalcino is internationally famous for its wine, Brunello di Montalcino. Around every corner, you can see wine bottles stacked. This charming medieval hilltop village offers more than just wine. There are many well-preserved medieval buildings within the historic city walls. You also have the views of the stunning vineyards in the distance, and you learn about the fascinating history

Pienza

Pope Pius II transformed this entire town in the year 1459, as he wanted his home town to be an idyllic Renaissance pearl. And did he succeed? He most certainly did. In only three years, he built a church, the papal palace, the town hall, and accompanying buildings in and around Piazza Pio II. Since then, none of these buildings have been remodeled, so come and take in the medieval vibe of this town!

After your visit to Pienza, it is time to return to Rome. Enjoy the peaceful ride back, and you are dropped off at your hotel in the evening.
