About this Wheelchair Accessible Cork & Blarney Castle tour

On this tour, you’ll discover the highlights of Cork and its surrounding areas with your private driver-guide, all from the comfort of a fully adapted vehicle. The tour starts at the cruise port of Cobh and is specially designed for wheelchair users, mobility scooter users, people with limited mobility and able-bodied travellers.

St Colman’s Cathedral, Cobh

Cobh is a colourful harbour town on the southern Irish coast. Your driver-guide will take you up to the highest point in town, where St Colman’s Cathedral dominates the skyline. At 91 metres, it is the tallest church in Ireland. Its tower holds a carillon of 49 bells, one of the finest in any church in Europe. While your guide waits outside you will have time to explore this historic church. The entrance is free of charge and wheelchair accessible, with a ramp providing access for wheelchair and scooter users.

Cork

From Cobh, your driver-guide will take you into Cork, the second largest city in Ireland. You will have time to explore the city centre together with your guide, with its lively English Market, colourful streets and views over the River Lee.

The city is largely navigable for wheelchair and scooter users, though some older cobbled streets in the centre can be uneven. Your guide knows the best routes to get around comfortably.

Blarney Castle

Next your guide will take you on a scenic drive through the countryside of cork, leading you to the famous Blarney Castle. The castle is perhaps best known for the Blarney Stone: a block of limestone built into the battlements. According to legend, kissing the stone grants the gift of eloquence.

The castle you see today is actually the third structure to stand on this site. The first was a wooden building from the 10th century, followed by a stone replacement around 1210. That version was demolished because its foundations were too weak. In 1446, Cormac Láidir MacCarthy built the current stone tower, with walls up to 18 feet thick. Over the following centuries, the castle changed hands many times through wars, sieges, and political upheaval. Today it stands as a partial ruin, surrounded by over 60 acres of gardens and parkland.

Accessibility note: The castle tower is not wheelchair accessible. The gardens and surrounding grounds are fully accessible, with wide, well-maintained pathways throughout. Accessible toilets and disabled parking are available on site. Visitors with a disability tag enter free of charge.

Here you have free time to walk/roll through the gardens and explore the grounds at your own pace.

Return journey and optional Titanic extension

After your visit, your driver-guide will take you back to the Cobh cruise port or your city centre accommodation. However, if you would like to extend your day, he can also drop you off at the Titanic Experience, just a 5-minute (st)roll from the cruise port. This fully wheelchair accessible attraction tells the story of the final 123 passengers who boarded the Titanic in Cobh. Entrance tickets are not included in the tour price and advised to prearrange.
