Discover the culture, history and landscapes of Lanzarote on this scenic island tour. From traditional villages to volcanic scenery and unique architectural creations, this journey offers an insight into the island’s heritage and everyday life.
Begin your tour at Casa-Museo del Campesino, a cultural complex created by local artist and architect César Manrique to honor the farmers who shaped Lanzarote’s history. Living in a dry, volcanic environment meant finding ingenious ways to grow crops and make the most of the island’s limited water supply.
Look out for the Monument to Fertility, a sculpture approximately 15 meters tall, made using recycled materials, including old water tanks. It has become one of Lanzarote’s most recognizable symbols.
The complex is largely adapted for visitors with reduced mobility, although the route leading to the monument itself is not adapted. This means you may be able to explore parts of the site without being able to reach the sculpture directly.
Next you continue to Teguise, one of Lanzarote’s oldest settlements and the island’s former capital until 1852. Its whitewashed houses, historic buildings and traditional Canarian architecture offer a glimpse into the island’s past. If you visit on a Sunday, you may also encounter the town’s popular weekly market.
The historic center has plenty of character, but its cobbled streets and uneven surfaces can make independent exploration challenging for some wheelchair users. Depending on your mobility requirements, you may prefer to enjoy parts of the town from the vehicle or explore only the more manageable sections.
You travel north towards Haría, a charming village surrounded by one of Lanzarote’s greenest landscapes. Known as the Valley of a Thousand Palms, this area stands out from the island’s otherwise dry volcanic scenery. Its palm trees thrive thanks to the local microclimate, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding hills and arid landscape.
Enjoy the changing scenery as you drive through the valley. The landscape can be appreciated from the adapted vehicle, while the accessibility of any additional stop will depend on the exact location and route.
You continue through a small coastal village to discover a quieter side of Lanzarote. Traditional fishing communities remain closely connected to the Atlantic Ocean, offering a glimpse into everyday island life away from the main tourist resorts.
This part of the tour is primarily a drive through the village, allowing you to take in the surroundings from the vehicle.
After discovering Lanzarote your driver and your guide take you back to the cruise port again.
Would you like to discover more of Lanzarote? Extend your island tour with a visit to a spectacular cliffside viewpoint and a traditional fishing village in the north.
Continue to Mirador del Río, another remarkable creation by César Manrique. Built into the cliffs of Risco de Famara, this architectural viewpoint blends into the surrounding landscape and offers panoramic views across the sea towards La Graciosa, a small neighboring island.
Inside, large curved windows frame the scenery like a painting. Manrique designed the building to complement its natural surroundings rather than compete with them.
The main visitor area and panoramic windows are accessible, allowing many visitors with reduced mobility to enjoy the views without needing to reach the upper floor. However, the upper floor, which includes the shop, is not accessible.
Finish your extended tour in Órzola, a small fishing village at the northern tip of Lanzarote. Its harbor connects the island with La Graciosa, part of the Chinijo Archipelago. The village is known for its traditional fishing heritage, fresh seafood and relaxed atmosphere.
Along the coast, pale sandy beaches contrast with the dark volcanic rocks that characterize much of Lanzarote. During the drive, you can enjoy the coastal scenery and observe village life from the adapted vehicle. If you would like to explore the harbor or waterfront on foot or by wheelchair, that is also possible.
After discovering the highlights of northern Lanzarote, you return to the cruise port.
