About this wheelchair accessible Chefchaouen tour

On this day, your English-speaking driver will meet you at the cruiseport at the time of pick up. From Tangier, you will make your way to Chefchaouen, and explore this extraordinary city, also known as the Blue City. It is mostly famous for its blue-painted houses and buildings and charming streets and alleys.

There are different theories as to why the buildings are painted blue. Some say the origin lies within Judaism. The Jewish refugees painted the town blue in the 1930´s, as blue is an important color to them that symbolizes the heavens. Others believe the color blue is used to ban mosquitos and/or keep the houses cool. Whatever the reason might have been, it makes for a magical appearance and unique atmosphere.

Rif Mountains

During the scenic drive of approximately 2,5 hours from Tangier to Chefchaouen, you will get to make stops for picture-taking and/or to have a break and enjoy some food/drinks.
As you approach the Blue City, you will have beautiful views of the Rif Mountains.

Upon arrival in Chefchaouen, you will meet your private guide and first visit the Blue Medina, which is the old part, as well as the heart of the town. Besides the different shades of blue in the streets, you will find narrow alleys with homes, small cafes and shops here. The artisan shops are full off local crafts and traditional goods that can make for a great souvenir. In addition, the beautiful setting in this part of town is perfect for taking photos.

Plaza Uta el-Hammam

On Plaza Uta el-Hammam, the town´s central square, you can enjoy a drink or meal in one of the many surrounding cafes and restaurants. From here, you will have stunning views of the Kasbah fortress and the Grand Mosque.

The Kasbah Fortress

The Kasbah Fortress is situated on the square and has less accessible areas. However, the gardens surrounding the Kasbah have flat paths and can be navigated in a wheelchair/mobility scooter. Entrances to the Kasbah are not included.
Your guide will also take you to the Grand Mosque, where you can admire the building from outside and take pictures.
During this day, time will be planned in for lunch. Lunch is not included in the tour price and therefore to be paid on the day.

In winter, and if time allows, your driver can take you up to the Ras el Ma Springs. This is a series of natural freshwater springs with clear water coming from the surrounding mountains. It is a popular recreational spot where visitors can enjoy the scenery and panoramic views.

At the end of the day, your driver will take you back to Tangier for your return to the port, and possibly some further sightseeing if time allows.
Tangier is famous for being the gateway between Europe and Africa and therefore has a rich cultural blend. Amongst the most interesting things to see in Tangier are the The Kasbah in the old town, the Great Mosque and the Petit Socco Quare.
