About Messina

Messina has always been an important city for Sicily, which also made the place interesting for various rulers. For example, the Romans, Byzantines, Normans, and Arabs ruled the beautiful city. During the Middle Ages, the city was the main port of departure for the crusades of European knights.

In the past, the city has also been hit by several disasters. The earthquake in 1908 was the biggest disaster, during the earthquake, a tidal wave emerged that razed the city to the ground. Also, during the Second World War, the city was damaged by a bombing in 1943. However, all destroyed authentic elements have been completely rebuilt over the years.
