At your hotel or the cruise port, your English-speaking guide will meet you with private adapted transport. Your wheelchair accessible Valletta and Vittoriosa tour starts in the south of the island, with the Three Cities. These are Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea. Afterwards, you continue to Malta’s capital city for the afternoon. Throughout the day, your private adapted vehicle brings you comfortably between the sites.
A scenic drive past Senglea and Cospicua brings you to Vittoriosa, also known as Birgu. This is one of Malta’s oldest settlements and the very first home of the Knights of St. John. Rich in maritime heritage, the town played a pivotal role during the Great Siege of 1565. There, you enjoy the various narrow streets, shaded by many historic buildings and churches, each one a reminder of Malta’s rich past. Afterwards, it is time for lunch*. Your guide will gladly advise some options of local restaurants.
In the afternoon, you continue to Valletta, Malta’s capital city, for a guided strolling tour. Get to see the hustle and bustle in the busy streets and the cosey alleys. This city was built after the Great Siege of 1565 and named after the Grand Master: Jean Parisot de la Vallette. Firstly, you visit the Barrakka Gardens, built on the elevated bastion ramparts. From these gardens, you have stunning views over the Grand Harbour and the three cities. Secondly, you visit St John’s Cathedral. This elegant church was formerly the traditional church of the Order of St. John. With its fine architecture, detailed Grand Masters’ monuments and precious works of art, this Cathedral is a must-see for everyone visiting Valletta. The collection even includes a Caravaggio, The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist.
After the Cathedral, you continue towards the Museum of Archaeology, which sits within the historic Auberge de Provence. This museum holds a spectacular range of artifacts dating back to Malta’s Neolithic period, around 5000 BC, up to the Phoenician period 400 BC. At the end of the tour, your driver brings you back to the cruise port or your hotel.
*Lunch is not included and has to be paid on the day.
