Highlights of this tour
- Marsaxlokk
- Vittoriosa (Birgu)
At your accommodation or the cruise port, your private guide meets you with private adapted transport. She will be waiting for you with a sign with your name on it. Together, you discover two of Malta’s most charming destinations on this wheelchair accessible Marsaxlokk and Vittoriosa tour, the seaside village of Marsaxlokk and the historic city of Vittoriosa.
Your tour begins in Marsaxlokk, the main fishing village of Malta. This place was once the site of the first Turkish landing during the Great Siege of 1565. Here, you see the luzzus painted in the traditional reds, blues, and yellows that add colour to this peaceful bay. Marsaxlokk consists of an elongated fishing port full of characteristic boats, which inspires photographers and painters alike. Moreover, the way the boats are scattered through the water makes it a colourful whole. After some free time to explore the local market stalls and the scenic promenade, you continue to Vittoriosa.
Leaving Marsaxlokk behind you, the excursion continues to Vittoriosa. Also called Birgu, this is one of Malta’s historic Three Cities, rich in maritime and military heritage. The city served as the first home of the Knights of St. John after their arrival on the island. Later, it played a pivotal role during the Great Siege of 1565. When you make your way through the town, you pass narrow streets, with historic buildings and churches on both sides. Along the way, charming squares and impressive fortifications open up towards the harbour, a reminder of the city’s rich past.
At the end of the tour, your guide brings you back to the cruise port or your accommodation again.
