The salt pans

Your first stop on this tour is the salt pans between Trapani and Marsala. Here you find endless salt pans, in which the clear seawater is transformed into mountains of “white gold.” Salt was a costly material in Italy for a long time. Just as tobacco, they used to levy a tax on it. Therefore initially salt could only be sold in the tabbacherie. Take a good look at the distinctive blue signs with a white T when you walk past a tobacconist: Tabacchi e sale is still here. When you know how much work was involved in the making of salt, you fully understand why the salt has been nicknamed “the white gold.”

From here, you have the opportunity to follow the salt roads from the salt bowl of Trapani.

Olive Factory

Once you have seen the salt pans and learned about their rich history, you have the option to have lunch (not included) at an old Olive Factory. After a short drive to the olive groves, you arrive at an olive factory that still has its original construction, built in the 18th century. At this factory, you enjoy a tour over the property, and, if you wish, a delicious lunch and an olive oil tasting. You can also buy some olive oil to take home.

The lunch consists of traditional Sicilian flavors. Enjoy the serene terrace, have a glass of local wine, and smell the aroma’s from the district. All brought to you by chefs from the region with a true heart for food.
