About this wheelchair accessible Madeira viewpoints tour

Your Madeira Viewpoints tour starts at the cruise port or your accommodation. Your English-speaking driver guide awaits you with a sign with your name, and private adapted transport.

Viewpoint Of Barcelos Peak

Your first stop on this tour is the Viewpoint Of Barcelos Peak, which is about 355 meters above sea level. From here, you have a gorgeous view of the city of Funchal and the ocean. Near the viewpoint, you find a few eateries, and there are adapted bathrooms.

Eira Do Serrado Viewpoint

After you have soaked up your surroundings, you continue towards the next highlight: Eira Do Serrado Viewpoint. A 1.095 meters high mountain in the middle of the island, overlooking the beautiful nature. You get there by following an accessible footpath. Once there, you see a fantastic panoramic view of Curral das Freiras, and the majestic mountains surrounding it.

Curral da Freiras

This little town is the biggest parish of Câmara de Lobos, covering little over 25km (15.5 miles) and has about 1700 inhabitants. Due to erosion, it looks like the village lies in a deep crater. It is also the only town you cannot see from the sea.

The town found its origin when the nuns of the Convent of Santa Clara had to flee from French pirates in 1560. When the island got invaded, the nuns sought safety at this hidden place in the middle of the mountains.

Câmara de Lobos

Câmara de Lobos is one of the largest places in Madeira and also one of the most visited tourist destinations of the island. Just like Winston Churchill, also tourists are drawn to see the beauty of the bay of the fishing village. During his stay in Madeira, Churchill spent several days in Câmara de Lobos to capture its beauty on his canvas.

In Câmara de Lobos, you have the chance to try several Madeiran drinks or how they say it locally: Taskinhas.

You can opt for a visit to the press museum.

At the museum, you find exciting items from the region. From historical lithographs to cinematographic heritage of communication and the press from Madeira.

Visit a winery

Visit a local family-owned winery and try their delicious wines. As one of the biggest wine producers on the island, they export several wines across the globe. They offer wheelchair accessible visits to their property, wine tastings, and bottles of wine for sale.

Viewpoint Cabo Girão

Your last stop on this Madeira Viewpoints tour is at the Cabo Girão Viewpoint, which is famous for its glass platform. From here you enjoy a majestic view of the fajãs of Rancho and Cabo Girão – two small areas of farmed land at the bottom of the mountain. You also see amazing panoramic views over the island and ocean. Do you dare to (st)roll over the glass?

Near the viewpoint, you get to see the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Fátima (Our Lady of Fátima). This chapel is one of the main pilgrimage sights of the island.

Once you have snapped your holiday pictures and soaked up the beauty of this side of the island, your driver guide brings you back to your accommodation or cruise port.
