Mediterranean Balcony
This accessible visit to Tarragona starts with your English-speaking guide picking you up from your hotel in an accessible van. After that, Tarragona is only a short ride away. The journey takes you along the beautiful coastline of Catalonia. Tarragona is a very charming city where ancient archeological sites mix perfectly with the Old Town of today. The first thing that stands out is the so-called ‘Mediterranean Balcony’. From where you will have an amazing view over The Mediterranean Sea. While you are there do not forget to touch the iron railing for your fair share of good luck, “tocar ferro”! Besides the ‘Mediterranean Balcony’, there are many bars and restaurants in the area. Which makes this one of the favorite meeting points of the locals.
Amphitheatre
The highlight of your second stop is the Seaside Amphitheatre. It stands into a steep slope between the Mediterranean Sea and the Roman Walls. Built in the late 100s, it could hold about 15.000 spectators. It used to be the place to see gladiators dueling and wild animals fight. Luckily today, you can enjoy the beautiful sights in peace. Let your guide tell you all about the rich history of this amazing place! The amphitheater is partly accessible. There is a steep incline towards the entrance, but once inside you can get a good view of the arena. Other parts have stairs and are therefore not accessible by wheelchair or scooter.
Please note that the amfitheather may be unexpectedly closed for maintenance.
Gothic Cathedral
Another site worth a visit is the Romanesque and Gothic Cathedral. The church has a beautiful and enormous rose window on the 14th-century main façade. During the day you enjoy a private lunch, which is not included, in an accessible restaurant. After this delicious meal, you can have a relaxing stroll along the boulevard of Tarragona. In the end, your driver will pick you up again and take you back to Barcelona.
