Prepare for the most stunning views. The drive will take approximately half an hour. On your way, you will stop at many breathtaking viewpoints.

Sete Cidades and surroundings

Sete Cidades is a small village located next to a crater composed of two adjoining lakes. The lakes are one of or the most popular highlights on the Island of São Miguel. Did you know that the lakes differ in color? Hence their names: Lagoa Azul, or ‘Blue Lake’, and Lagoa Verde, or ‘Green Lake’. The greenish color is due to volcanic gasses that cause chemical reactions. On this tour, you will be able to admire the scenery from different viewpoints. The first viewpoint is Vista do Rei. In 1901 the Portuguese Royal Family D. Carlos and Queen D. Amélia visited this look-out. From here, we will continue to the next so-called ‘Miradouro’, or viewpoint da Lagoa de Santiago. Again, the beautiful scenery will take your breath away! Your next stop on this accessible tour is the village of Sete Cidades. It is your last option to watch over the magical lakes surrounded by lush green vegetation.

Miradouro do Escalvado

This viewpoint lies on the far West end of the Island. From there, you will be able to watch over the rocky coastline, the Atlantic Ocean, and inland. Springtime is a popular season for whale watching, especially from this point on the Island. April and May are the best months, so bring your binoculars to catch a glimpse of a tail, or spot water blows.

Miradouro do Carvão

Also known as Pico do Carvão or Coal Peak viewpoint. This final look-out lies at 649 meters altitude. Like the other viewpoints, it provides you with spectacular views. The green landscape you will see, stretch from the North to the South side of the Island. Furthermore, you can see the surrounding lakes and the Atlantic Ocean.
