About this wheelchair accessible Siena and San Gimignano tour

If you want to get out of the city for a day and explore the countryside and some cities of Tuscany, then this Siena and San Gimignano tour is for you!

First stop

After a scenic ride through the fields of Tuscany, you arrive at the medieval town of Siena. Here you see the beautiful architecture the town offers. The first stop is a visit to the exterior of the Duomo (Cathedral) of Siena, a beautiful building in Gothic Style. Your trip continues to the Palazzo Comunale that lies in the famous shell-shaped square, Piazza del Campo. The square that hosts the Palio (bareback horse race) twice each summer. This race is the most important event in the city and attracts people from all over the world. The different ‘Contrade’ or areas of the city race each other. Each area has its emblem (unicorn, goose, she-wolf, etc.), and when it is time for the games, you see these emblems throughout the city, just like street signs. Pay attention, and you know in what area of the city you are!

Second stop

An hour’s drive from Siena lies the city of San Gimignano. This UNESCO world heritage site is one of the most beautiful Italian medieval cities. Witness the impressive medieval towers. Do you know the saying: “All roads lead to Rome?”. Well, the town is situated along the Via Francigena, the ancient pilgrim route that stretches from France to Rome. The town is also famous for many other things, such as the Vernaccia (white wine grape), saffron (spice), and beautiful hand-crafted Santa Fina ceramics. You have free time in the city to go and explore. Enjoy the architecture, the history, the views and certainly do not forget to buy some local goods!

After the time in San Giminiano, it is time to head back to the starting point of your tour. You are dropped off at your hotel or cruise port in the evening.

Optional wine tasting

Want to taste the most fabulous wines of the area? Indulge yourself by doing a wine tasting at a local winery. You taste several wines that are locally produced and get to know everything about the process from growing the grapes to creating the wine. If you would like to add this wine tasting to your day, please tell us in advance – the wine tasting needs to be paid on the day of your tour.
